Elbereth's Light by Cholanmely

Beneath the canopy of night,
Shimmering with Elbereth's light,
Ithil glows upon her skin,
Illuminating her heart within.
Whispering of days long past
Stilled by peace that does not last
To temporal power she does yield,
Surrendering her prideful shield,

Beneath the canopy of night,
Shimmering with Elbereth's light,
Soft sighs like solemn music rise,
Echoing the sadness from her eyes,
Lingering upon the autumn air,
The sorrow of a maiden fair,
A lingering shadow she does spy,
While gazing upon the moonlit sky.

Beneath the canopy of night,
Shimmering with Elbereth's light,
Nearby an Elven warrior stands,
Like phantom faerie from legend lands.
Glowing ethereal and fair,
In his eyes a fire rare.
The soft light fell upon his face,
Where beauty seemed to marry grace,

In the loneliness of night,
Shimmering with Elbereth's light,
Mesmerized when him she saw,
Slave to wonder and to awe,
Timidly, soundless and still,
Beckoning with wordless will,
The elleth beheld him there,
Whose presence displaced her despair,

In the loneliness of night,
Shimmering with Elbereth's light,
A moment of delight pristine,
In a field soft and serene,
In silence she did swear to keep,
This vague sensation buried deep;
Though clearly betrayed by her face,
Which instead pleaded her case.

In the loneliness of night,
Shimmering with Elbereth's light,
With pleasantries and idle chatter,
Striving to conceal this matter,
The young elleth spoke a while,
And in turn listened and smiled.
So at last they when bid goodnight,
The fair Elf did fade from sight.

In the loneliness of night,
Shimmering with Elbereth's light,
The maiden sat in contemplation,
Puzzled by the strange sensation,
There upon the grassy field,
And with soft sighing she did yield,
To the power of Ithil's light,
Bringing at last to her respite.
